Sizzling Summer Fun

Summer as we all know, is the hottest time of the year here in our valley where the days are longer, the nights are shorter, and the temperatures seem to climb by the minute every time you blink. Nobody knows and understands this as well as us living here in Las Vegas and it is something that we seem to despise as the years go by. To beat the summer heat, we are all aware of your traditional staples such as going to the movies, your local water park or community swimming pool, and cooling off inside with your favorite ice cream or beverage.
Here is something to do to beat the heat that may surprise you so brace yourself, it is located outdoors! Yes, you read that correctly. I swear to you that I did not just write this after suffering from heat stroke or dehydration. There is a place in the west valley that is typically 10-12 degrees cooler than down in the valley that people of all ages as well as furry friends can enjoy. Spring Mountain Ranch is located just 10 miles off the 215 and West Charleston intersection and offers everything from hiking grounds, beautiful views of the mountain range, and the best part about the ranch; the outdoor summer theatre series. The neat thing about the ranch is that your family and your fury friends can experience and enjoy the interactive theatre performance. Located at 3,800 feet elevation, it is a great way to cool down making this an ideal getaway from the scorching city and valley.
The theatre has state of the art lighting and an enhanced sound system and is located on a beautiful grassy meadow, which makes any seat a good one! The “Super Summer Theatre” as it is called, runs every Wednesday through Saturday from May through September. Performances start at 7:05 p.m. and is a great family fun activity or an idea to bring a loved one out on a date under the stars. The cool thing about the “Super Summer Theatre” series is that you may bring your own lawn chair and if you have forgotten yours they do have some that you can rent. Bring your blanket and pack a snack as outside food and alcoholic beverages are permitted! Also, another fun fact to note is that you can make this adventure an all-day thing as you can come early and catch a tour of the ranch house. Step back and take a journey in time to an era where you can visit the 1800s and see an old blacksmith shop, roam the Wilson Cemetery, and visit a chinchilla shed. Tours happen daily from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and are open to the public!
Spring Mountain Ranch is open year-round and offers a variety of events such as water days in the summer, afternoon yoga in the meadow, and reenactments of historical events including the Civil War.
